This volume presents the results of the project "Collective violence and popular protest in Spanish cities: the War of Independence", funded by the State Research Agency (2020-2024). In particular, it focuses on a type of bloody riots, which exceeded seventy episodes and which frequently culminated in the death of a high Spanish or Portuguese public official, which were concentrated in two waves (May?July/1808 and December/1808). 1808?March/1809), but they were replicated during the rest of the war, and which, within the brutal violence of the conflict, were differentiated from the tumultuous attacks against French civilians or soldiers.
