- Antonio Slepak (1939-2016), was a self-taught artist and his artistic project condensed the abstract art trends that boomed in the sixties, after a certain decline of constructivist art. The curatorial narrative of art historian, critic and independent curator Manuel Neves (Montevideo 1973) focuses on Slepak's work made between 1965 and 1985. "The anthological nature of this first solo exhibition by Antonio Slepak at the Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales (MNAV) highlights the central importance of the artist's work in almost five decades of uninterrupted work and clearly indicates the intention to highlight a production that is little known to the general public and a reference for his colleagues.
