- Summary:
- The José Gurvich Foundation and the Gurvich Museum, for several years, have dedicated the month of March -Women's Month- to exhibiting works by women artists, some of whom were part of the Escuela del Sur. "The set of works selected for the present exhibition was the result of research in the collections of the Juan Manuel Blanes Municipal Museum and the José Gurvich Foundation, in addition to arduous research among relatives of the artists, collectors, gallery owners and auction houses. From the hundreds of pieces found -including drawings, paintings, tapestries, ceramics and works in other techniques-, the resulting selection has been divided into three large groups: the first one with self-portraits and historical photographs showing the faces of some of these women; a second one with works from the Escuela del Sur, including classic exercises of the Constructivist expression encompassing three periods: the Asociación de Arte Constructivo, the Taller Torres García (TTG by its initials in Spanish) until the death of the master, and then its final stage until its closing, showing studies from life with analytical and synthetic approaches, figurative and Constructivist mental paintings per se; and finally, the ramifications of each artist's personal processes, in the cases where they managed to find an individual aesthetic language."--Page 156.
