Summary:
The soundscape of the chapel of Santa Bárbara, in Barichara, is the protagonist of this work. The book is a transdisciplinary artistic work that analyzes -through texts, images, and music- the sound phenomenon and the social, cultural, and political context of this venue. The team composed of the duo Música Cortesana (Armando José Fuentes Hernández and Álvaro Huertas Nieto), architect Cristina Albornoz Rugeles and engineer Juan Pablo Espitia Hurtado made an acoustic and architectural study of the chapel and its surroundings, as well as a selection of musical pieces from the Renaissance and early Baroque, which they adapted to the language of the harpsichord, the organ, the lute and the voice to be performed in this construction of the late 18th century. This book, which includes a CD phonogram with the recording made in the chapel, provides an immersive historical perspective of the music. In 1996, Armando José Fuentes Hernández and Álvaro Huertas Nieto formed the musical group Música Cortesana, dedicated to the European and Latin American repertoire of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, both solo and ensemble works, performing versions adapted by them to the harpsichord, organ, lute and voice format, in accordance with the guidelines of the tradition of Renaissance and Baroque instrumental practice.
