- Summary:
- The Grocer, established by Mr. Md Belayat Hossain in 2016, is a popular mini-grocery supermarket, located in Road 1, Block A, Banasree, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The shop has gained a decent reputation among customers because of its low prices and high quality of grocery products along with excellent employee customer service. Sales increase during festivals, such as Baishakhi (Bengali New Year celebration), New Year's Eve (English New Year), Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Adha, etc, therefore a sufficient number of employees are required to meet demand during these busy periods. However, over the last few years, the shop owner has experienced problems such as absenteeism, early departures, lack of punctuality, and poor customer service during busy periods. These issues have negative impacts on the business reputation of The Grocer. This case study articulates the reasons for the problems experienced by The Grocer. The case also highlights the processes-especially, the use of transactional leadership style and job rotation-applied to overcome the problems faced by this micro-business.
