- Summary:
- Sunaina was a second-year student in a two-year MBA programme at MDI, a reputed management college in India. Her final placements were scheduled for October 2023, and Sunaina had to ensure that she was making the best choice among the available options of companies and roles, which would help her achieve her career objective of becoming a general manager and director of a marketing division in a large company. One of the constraints on Sunaina was that the initial career choice had to be within the limited number of specific job profiles of companies that were likely to visit the campus. Sunaina also had to consider her suitability for the job profiles offered by the companies, her competitive advantage among the other students who would also apply, and her personal inclinations. Sunaina was aware that the first job was only a stepping stone, but it had the potential to influence her career trajectory significantly. Sunaina had less than two months to prepare for the competitive placement season, and so firming up her strategy was critical. Students will be asked to analyse the situation from the perspectives both of Sunaina and of the potential recruiters, to arrive at the best set of companies and profiles. The recommendation should consider the role of Sunaina's childhood experiences, her academic profile, and her attractiveness for the recruiters visiting the campus.
