Summary:
In 2010, social entrepreneur Archana Kapoor founded Radio Mewat (RM) in the northern Indian state of Haryana. RM, a community radio, emerged as a dynamic force, crafting and disseminating radio content designed to touch the lives of marginalized and vulnerable segments of the region. One of RM's distinctive approaches involved training and employing young men and women as radio jockeys and field volunteers within their community. However, the path to women's empowerment through active participation in radio programming faced challenges, including resistance from religious authorities and pervasive gender biases. Overcoming these obstacles to involve more women as content creators and broadcasters became a pivotal mission of the radio station. Despite the obstacles, Kapoor remained persistent in her goal of establishing RM as a people's platform. Students will be asked to assess community engagement and women's participation in running a radio station. Kapoor believes that RM has achieved milestones since its inception, substantiated by compelling anecdotal evidence. She now envisions creating a robust strategic analysis matrix grounded in these narratives. Students will step into Kapoor's shoes, tasked with crafting a matrix that vividly portrays RM's impact on the community over the years. In brief, students will delve deep into a story of persistence, empowerment, and enduring transformation in community radio.
