Summary:
LafargeHolcim Bangladesh Ltd., a foreign direct investment joint venture, employs more than 7,000 employees and is one of the most prominent players in the cement industry. During the COVID-19 pandemic, challenges arose from the need to prioritize employees' health, with the risks countered in a range of ways, including online workspaces and organizing cyclical responsibilities on-ground and online. The company took all possible measures to ensure the safety of its employees and planned for other advanced medical options to address unforeseen health hazards. To avoid the risks of the subsequent recessionary period, LafargeHolcim also handled the company's revenue and costs very proactively and coherently. During the pandemic, like any big corporation operating in a community, the company disbursed huge funds in response to its corporate social responsibilities, supplying the surrounding neighborhoods with health safety awareness sessions, health safety products, food, and finances for those in distressed situations. The unique measures taken by LafargeHolcim Bangladesh to ensure employee safety, maintain the supply chain, implement digital solutions, and focus on product diversification have helped the company successfully navigate through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. As dilemmas arose, the effective handling of the most critical cases by the top management and their skillful decision-making contributed to the remarkable survival of the company, which surpassed others in the industry.
