Summary:
This dataset is designed for teaching decolonial discourse analysis. These data are provided by Dr. Rodolfo Maggio from the University of Helsinki and are drawn from a publicly available video embedded in a Facebook post, a picture embedded in a post on X (formerly Twitter), and a selection of comments to these. The example focuses on how a decolonial methodology can be applied to reveal the colonial assumptions inherent in comments about videos and pictures when these are re-signified into geopolitical debates that concern the interests of relatively big global players rather than relatively small regional players, whose local perspectives often are lost. The dataset is accompanied by a student guide.
