Summary:
Our university is a predominantly white institution (PWI) on the ancestral homelands of the Ute, Paiute, Shoshone, and Goshute; however, there is no evidence of them on our campus. At the request of Native faculty, staff, and students at the University, the coauthors attempted to address the erasure of Native nations and peoples from campus. This community-driven research uses Indigenous epistemologies and Indigenous research methodologies (IRM) to answer how Native and non-Native researchers can approach relational research to serve the interests and needs of Native communities. Although the coauthors initiated the project in the fall of 2022, it continues to remain active a year later. The coauthors learned the importance of relationality, patience, humility, and allyship when working with Native communities.
