Summary:
CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited, formerly Crompton Greaves Limited and commonly referred to by the letters CG, is an Indian multinational company primarily involved in the design, manufacturing, and marketing of products used for power generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity. Major restructuring of the company occurred in 2016 after the demerger of its consumer goods business. CG was part of the Murugappa Group and is based in Mumbai. CG had been one of India's most prominent private-sector players, involved in the designing, manufacturing, and marketing of technologically advanced electrical goods and services. Most products and services catered to power generation, transmission, and distribution. Furthermore, the company provided supplies to electrical utilities, and electricity to high-tech enterprises and consumer-centric product fabricators. The company worked in three significant divisions of power systems, creating transformers and switch gears, producing motors for industrial systems, and consumer products such as lights, pumps, and fans. CG expanded its business manufacturing in nine countries and its operations in 85 countries in Asia, Europe, and North America. However, due to the problems power sector companies encounter after technical and non-technical losses, the Murugappa Group was unsure about the best path forward for the company. Students will be asked to evaluate the strategic use of technology in the management of a power company.
