On December 6, 2021, the U.S.-based home ownership firm Better.com stirred controversy by announcing a massive layoff via a three-minute Zoom webinar. Outrage erupted across social media, focusing on communication issues associated with the mode of delivery of this bad news. The CEO apologized by accepting that the form and execution of the communication was not handled in a professional manner. However, the saga of communication failures continued as three more layoffs occurred within the next eight months. The employees felt unsatisfied and even dejected by the announcement.
