- Summary:
- Orient Battery Limited (OBL) was a household battery manufacturer in India with a production plant in Manesar, located near the National Capital Region of Delhi. The company was setting up a new factory, and the management team wanted to replicate the work culture of the Manesar plant. The replication work was assigned to Rohit Sharma, a very busy executive, who nonetheless accepted the assignment without any questions. When Sharma shared details of the additional assignment with his team, they feared that it would affect their current work, and doubted the feasibility of taking on the new commission. Sharma assured his team of their capability of achieving the task and delegated responsibility to Anand. Sharma guided Anand on the work from time to time, but this assignment was new for Anand and he was sometimes out of his comfort zone. As a consequence, while he managed to complete the task, the performance was not very good. Sharma had to intervene at the last moment to salvage the situation.
