- Summary:
- The number of camels in the United Arab Emirates has increased in recent years, and the Dubai Camel Hospital (DCH) was established in 2017 as the world's first hospital devoted to treating this important animal. Staffed with an international team of veterinarians, the DCH's purpose is to protect the United Arab Emirates' legacy, of which camels are an integral part. The DCH aims to make a significant contribution to camel medicine research and development and hopes to expand. The hospital has opted to extend its facilities in order to accommodate more camels, and is planning to build an outpatient center over the next five years. But their plans for growth face several hurdles, including securing qualified staff, obtaining appropriate equipment, and sustaining sufficient patient volumes. It is not clear how the DCH should proceed to ensure its successful growth: which strategic opportunities should the unique facility pursue?
