- Summary:
- Elina Jahan is the owner of SAARA Boutique House, which mainly sells handmade, customized clothes, shoes, and jewelry for women. This small and medium-sized enterprise was doing very well when it started out in 2017. However, 6 months after its inauguration, there was a downtrend among repeat customers. This case illuminates the reasons for the decline in new customers as well as repeat customers. The case also highlights how the bureaucratic leadership approach applied by owners when they start a business can be detrimental to an organization where a new generation of employees works. Moreover, students will learn the effectiveness of a participative leadership style to improve employee efficiency and effectiveness. Readers will see how Elina applied participative leadership to produce better products and services to gain greater customer satisfaction and an increase in sales. Finally, the case encourages students to evaluate the process of applying a participative leadership style in the workplace and how ignoring such an approach can be detrimental to the growth of a business.
