- Summary:
- In the early 2000s, a small Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) test preparation company based in Europe was presented with a unique opportunity to develop the business in Kuwait City. The company, Ivy Admissions, was founded by experienced GMAT teacher and test bank writer, Matt Smith. The opportunity came through a classmate while Matt was completing his doctorate in the United States. Upon landing in Kuwait City for the first time in 2005, Matt understood right away that running and operating a small test prep company in Kuwait would be a radically different undertaking than anything he had done before. This case covers the challenges and opportunities that he faced as a lone American attempting to start a small, niche business in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.
