- Summary:
- Jim often jokes that he flips hamburgers for a living, but his restaurant is more of a community staple than he likes to admit. Located in a small town in Oklahoma, the locals like Backyard Burgers because it fits. Even with fast-food chains being built all around, there is something nostalgic and relatable about Jim's restaurant that keeps the locals happy. That is, however, until Jim made one small change to the menu. All it took was the addition of one item-a plant-based burger-which was an idea from Jim's vegan teenage son. It was noticed immediately, and it also immediately led to the subtraction of customers. Even worse, it took Jim three weeks to connect the dots that he was in a full-on crisis. Now, with sales steadily decreasing despite a happy, involved son, Jim must find a way out of this crisis. He needs to get his regular customers back, but he also does not want to upset his son. Students will be asked to analyze the situation and recommend a strategy for overcoming a crisis as a small business owner.
