- Summary:
- Jeff works for Sector Project Management and is a U.S. Military Reservist. Over the past year, he has experienced several challenges with his work and boss, Morgan, which have led him to an ethical dilemma. Jeff has recently applied to and been accepted for an active-duty military tour that will require him to leave the company for an extended period. Based on his interactions with Morgan and experiences in the company, he must decide how much and how to let his leadership know about the active-duty tour. This case explores several root causes of (un)ethical behavior and discusses an often-forgotten demographic in the workforce, military veterans, in a real, anonymized organizational setting. A model for ethical decision-making is provided to encourage students to think about all the factors involved as well as multiple order effects.
