Summary:
This case study focuses on the challenges and prospects of an Indigenized actor-oriented approach to development sociology through reflecting on a research project carried out in the Palestinian village of Ni'lin. The case study describes the methodologic approach developed, how it was operationalized, and how it played out in the real research setting with a pedagogic focus. The case study offers insights into the challenges and special considerations of carrying out research in volatile political settings and in settings of ongoing colonial encounters. It offers depictions of the central dimensions of navigating fieldwork in such a setting, in addition to the importance of anticolonial foundations of methodologic approaches and how they trickle down to the various components of research. This entails critical engagement with the politics and ethics of research and knowledge as ways in which knowledge is enriched toward the diversity of human experience.
