- Summary:
- The purpose of this case study is to provide suggestions on recruiting and conducting studies with underrepresented populations, with a focus on communities of color and neurodiverse communities. In this case study, we discuss the techniques and challenges in conducting research with those populations, such as reaching out and recruiting participants, focusing on qualitative designs, and abiding by ethical research practices. We also stress how researchers can be advocates for underrepresented communities by representing their interests and involving them in the research process. The case study is based on the primary author's master's thesis, which focuses on research with parents of autistic children of color, and discusses her challenges while conducting her research project.
