Pontell is Distinguished Professor of Sociology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and Professor Emeritus at the University of California Irvine. An internationally recognized scholar, his research on white-collar crime includes studies in China and countries throughout Asia. He is a past president of the Western Society of Criminology and vice-president of the American Society of Criminology, and is a fellow of both organizations.
