- Summary:
- Manuscript leaf of a study calendar, bound-in to the second volume of a copy of Kehilot Mosheh (the Seventh Rabbinic Bible; Amsterdam, 1723 or 1724-1728, between gatherings [122] and [123]), written and decorated by a former owner of the book; the manuscript was written on a folio sheet bound-in between the books of Samuel and Kings. Five central vertical rectangles drawn in ink with double-bounding lines(the outer two are for the artist's name, originally reading ואני בקולמוסי הצעיר סלימאן יוסף נסים יצ"ו, written by ink-blackened lettering, called the spared-ground lettering technique, or in Hebrew כתב חציבה; a subsequent owner, Ḥayim Daṿid Ḥayim, manipulated portions of the letters with ink to read his name; the original name is visible under light); the four central columns are tables for studying the Pentateuch, Prophets, Hagiographa, and the six orders of Mishnah. Title Seder ha-limud written in spared-ground technique inside dark rectangle, with traced decorative flourish and floral patterns around a calligraphic Middle Eastern square script; rectangular column two and other column headings written in a Sephardic square script, and remainder of text written in a Middle Eastern cursive script; ink patterns (octagonal tiled borders and patterns, with faux-gilt square traced bounding lines).
