- Summary:
- The evolution of sound recording media in Iran, which mirrors that in the West, from the 19th century to the end of the monarchy in 1979.
- "This film focuses on the evolution of sound recording media in Iran—which well reflects that in the rest of the world—from the time of historic Qajar dynasty to the end of the second Pahlavi period. The movie opens in the home of a collector of historical sound recording devices, including music boxes, player piano music rolls, steel wire sound recording and playback devices, and finally, phonograph machines, and moves on to royal palaces whose rulers collected sound recording devices, and to the Museum of Music or Iran. With the arrival of phonographs, Iranian traditional music began to be recorded on the new media. Performances of many great musicians, who represented the various singing methods of the Iranian “dastgahs” across more than 100 years, were preserved. The Persian word “dastgah” means both “system” and “equipment.” The suffix “-gah” signifies the location where a thing is produced."-- Provided by Heritage Broadcasting Service.
