"Brik - An Uncompromising Fighter is a book that describes the fascinating life of Major General (res.) Yitzhak Brik, a member of the 1978 generation, who enlisted in the Armored Corps and fought in all of Israel's wars during his time. The book interweaves his private life with the lives of the fighters and their families over the years. In the Six-Day War, Brik was considered missing: "Who are you?" asked Yankela, the kibbutz's dairyman. I was shocked by the question itself and shouted back at him: "I'm Brik. Don't you know me?" He told me: "Brik is dead!" And I answered him in the same tone: "Brik is not dead. It's me, and I'm alive." This is how Brik describes the Yom Kippur War: "On 7.10.73, my force encountered an Egyptian commando ambush. An anti-tank missile was fired at me and passed millimeters from my face. I was badly burned in the face and my shirt caught fire. I jumped out of the tank and rolled on the sand to put out the fire that had caught my shirt. I whispered to myself in a weak voice: 'I breathe, I feel, I think, so I am alive,' and crawled into the tank under the gunner's cover, climbed onto it with the rest of my strength and continued to fight." On 8.10.73 he wrote: "I was trapped in fire, smoke and explosions; the ground trembled under our feet. For me, day turned into night. It was a kind of solar eclipse that happened and came upon us in an instant." Brik was in the 113th Battalion, which lost 35 commanders and soldiers in the battle of the Firdan Bridge in Egypt, and dozens more were wounded. The wounded would carry the pain of their wounds in their bodies and souls for the rest of their lives. Eighteen years after the war, a young soldier asked to enter one of his lectures and ended with heartbreaking tears. When she calmed down, Brik asked the soldier: "What was your father's name?" "His name was Zeev Sasson," the girl replied. "Your father was one of the best friends I had," he said. This was the first time she had heard a living testimony about her father, who was killed in the war.
