Summary:
A collection of letters describing Lillian Schoedler's travels around the world. These start with an account of a holiday in Japan, where she lands a job working with the head of General Motors in the Far East, entailing travels to Singapore, China, Malaysia, Indonesea and India. She witnesses the aftermath of the Nanking disaster, tours rubber and tobacco estates in Sumatra, and sees Hindu ruins in Java and a cremation in Bali. Later trips see her venturing into Africa, the Middle East and Europe. She drives through sandstorms in Persia in a Buick, travels on the Trans-Siberian Railway, attends the 1930 meeting of the League of Nations when she is working for Edward Filene, and drives across England in a Wolseley motor car. Other adventures include crossing the Sahara, being caught in Abyssinia as the Italians invade, and seeing Britain, France and Japan immediately after the Second World War. There are some miscellaneous notes at the end.
