Summary:
Spanish Lake, Missouri, was a close-knit community in unincorporated St. Louis County. After the inhabitants of crime-ridden housing projects in St. Louis were moved to the area, race and class conflicts (and fear of property value loss) drove many residents out. But the community attachment was so strong that many Lakers still return every year, wishing things could change back to how they were.
