Summary:
Jayson Musson: His History of Art catalogs the artist's critically-acclaimed three-channel video series developed and exhibited in collaboration with The Fabric Workshop and Museum as part of his residency. Written, starring, and co-directed by Musson, who describes it as "a sitcom orbiting art history and all the fun to be had dancing on the minefield of the past," His History of Art featured costumes, props, puppets, and set designs produced in collaboration with the FWM Studio team. First exhibited in Philadelphia in 2022, the show travelled to Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, MO. This hardcover publication captures both the presentation of the work as well as the trajectory of its making through video stills, behind-the-scenes photography, draft scripts and storyboards, and installation views from the exhibition. Introduced by Christina Vassallo, the book features essays by art historian Gwendolyn DuBois Shaw and artist Michael Smith, as well as an interview with Musson in conversation with DJ Hellerman and Alec Unkovic.
