- "La Gara degli Dei is one of two serenatas that Johann David Heinichen composed for the famous celebration of the wedding of the German prince Friedrich August III and the Austrian archduchess Maria Josepha in September 1719, this one serving as prelude to a fireworks display on along the banks of the Elba. The music contains features found in Venetian music of the day that was popular at the Dresden court. La Gara degli Dei includes an aria for tenor with the accompaniment of the theorbo and horn as well as sonatas for solo violin, solo oboe, and orchestra." -- Provided by publisher.
