- Summary:
- In March 2023, the United Kingdom introduced a new law banning the import of hunting trophies. For decades, many animals, including endangered species, have been hunted in several African countries and their body parts imported to be kept or displayed as "trophies." Although many conservation advocates support the new legislation, some African governments have also expressed concerns, arguing that the ban would reduce tourism and adversely impact national revenue. Additionally, the ban could push hunters to resort to other harmful activities such as poaching or the illegal animal trade, which could further deter conservation efforts. This case addresses the pros and cons of the new law and asks students to think of additional steps that policymakers should undertake to ensure the wellness of both people and animals.
