- The Wackenhut Corporation is a private company running 55 prisons in the U.S. and abroad. Wackenhut claims that it can run the prisons more economically than a state while providing better rehabilitation for inmates. There have however been serious allegations involving juvenile offenders who have been subjected to sexual abuse and cruel and unusual punishment at some Wackenhut facilities.
