- On Aug. 10th, 1999, Buford Furrow walked into a Jewish Community Center in Los Angeles and opened fire, wounding five people including three children in day care. Later that day, he shot and killed a postman. Authorities in Furrow's home state of Washington was aware that he was unstable and was contemplating mass murder but, despite this knowledge, had granted him parole with little or no supervision.
