- Bill Koch tried and failed to take over Koch Industries, his family's multi-billion dollar oil company, in 1980. Koch has been suing his older brother Charles for nearly 20 years, charging that much of the oil Koch Industries collected was stolen from federal lands. The company, found guilty of theft from the public by a federal jury, is now facing charges of alleged environmental violations.
