- 125 people were killed in the Pentagon on September 11. When the plane hit, it obliterated the first and part of the second floor. The third, fourth and fifth floors remained suspended in air for 35 minutes, allowing hundreds of people to escape. The answer lay in the fact that the plane had hit the only section of the Pentagon renovated to resist a terrorist attack.
