- In 1979, the government of Nicaragua set up two schools for deaf children in Managua. Amazingly the children, who were brought from all over the country and had never before been exposed to language, developed their own sign language. Includes an interview with Judy Kegl, an American linguist, who, with her husband, has started a school to teach the new sign language.
