Summary:
Over the past two decades, artist Ishmael Randall Weeks (Cuzco 1976, lives and works between New York and Lima) has created works that reflect on public space, the current environmental crisis, and the construction of shared narratives. Ordinary materials such as concrete, stone, rubber, brick, and metal are recurrent in his works, as his work is a constant entry and exit from architecture. The exhibition comprises close to seventy medium- and large-format works produced by the artist between 2006 and 2023, including drawing, collage, photography, sculpture, video and installation. The details in the sculptures, as well as the geometric shapes, are in contradiction, "opposite in society , such as crafts or house building; the way that different cultural capitals -Western vs. Andean, "modernizing" vs. "traditional"- come into play in the actual creation and interpretation of works and the way in which an art of space and materiality -such as sculpture- must necessarily reflect our natural resources, the property of space and quality of life." --Page 5.
