Founded, edited and published by George Faulkner. Some early imprints include the name of James Hoey, who was in partnership with George Faulkner from late 1727; the partnership ended in May 1730, at which time Hoey began his own Dublin Journal. After George Faulkner's death (1775), the newspaper was published and printed by his son: Thomas Todd Faulkner, whose name appears in imprints from 1783?-1792?; later printed by George Faulkner [2nd] (1795-1804), and W. F. Hodges (1804- )
In 1788 the paper was leased by Thomas Todd Faulkner to John Giffard, who remained the publisher through the early 19th century. Always a Protestant paper, the publication became a mouthpiece of Castle government under Giffard. Cf. Inglis; North.
