Charles Lucas was a major contributor to the newspaper until his death in 1771.

Originally a liberal paper which supported the Volunteer movement, the paper was taken over by Francis Higgins in 1782 and by 1784 was no longer an opposition newspaper but a voice for Dublin Castle. Higgins died in 1802, the newspaper eventually regained its independence.

Includes editorial comments on political liberty by The Watchman, with extensive coverage of the Irish parliament, reports from the London gazette, British and European news, Dublin notes and advertisements.

Latest issue consulted: Vol. XXI. Numb. 106. = Total numb. 2917 (From Tuesday. April the 20th, to Thursday, April the 22d, 1784.).

At an unidentified point, the designation began to include a running total of issues published.
