Summary:
Julia Johnstone was the assumed name of Julia Storer (b. 1777), a Regency courtesan and the daughter of Queen Charlotte's Lady-in-Waiting, Elizabeth Proby. In 1825, a posthumous book 'Confessions of Julia Johnstone' was published in contradiction to the memoirs of her friend and fellow courtesan, Harriette Wilson. Julia and her long-term partner, army officer Josiah Cottin, who was married and had another family, had six children together. She and her children lived in Primrose Hill, London, in a house paid for by Josiah. When Josiah left Julia, it is believed she moved in with Harriette and fell pregnant by Sir Henry Mildmay, who quickly deserted her. Following this, she accepted the protection of Napier. She died in 1818 of heart disease.
