Summary:
The south-central Andean area has historically been identified with the Tiwanaku culture, approximately between 300 and 1,100 A.D., when Tiwanaku lost its dominion and gave way to numerous independent kingdoms and lordships. One of the main characteristics of the central-southern Andean area is the high population mobility, which integrates several ecological levels, such as the Pacific coast, the desert valleys or oases, the semi-arid highlands and the salt puna of the altiplano. The topics covered in this publication are the following: temporal and spatial trends in erosion; viability and change of agricultural tools from northeastern Argentina, complex stratigraphy of a Formative Period site in Ayacucho, analysis of ceramic material from the archaeological site Misahuanca-Valle de Orcopampa in Arequipa, painted ceramic plaques, painted boulders and painted loja in the collection of the ISEP La Inmaculada-Camaná in Arequipa, social relations in southern Peru during the Early Horizon, who founded Quilcacama (agents, social networks and the Wari state), Middle Horizon styles at the archaeological site La Pampa in the Camaná Valley, etc. "The University of Warsaw has been involved in research in the Arequipa region since the 1990s. While the names of the research units are changing and the scale of the investigation is also constantly changing, the work with the Universidad Católica Santa María, with whom, thanks to many years of activity, we have shared experience with many wonderful people." --translated from Page [18].
