Summary:
In 2018, the professors of the Master's Degree in Architecture of the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez (Chihuahua, Mexico) considered how to define some lines of research and training. "But as the above was not exclusive to the border region, the coordinators of this work took on the task of summoning professionals and scholars who wanted to show us how they research, for what purposes, in the framework of drastic change and uncertainty. Our border experience suggested a wide range of issues: life in the desert and in extreme climates, flooding in an agricultural valley that has not yet been fully urbanized, the binational condition and the value of money on a border of controls on bodies and goods, the arrival of caravans of migrants and victims of forced displacement, the rapid processes of obsolescence in the building structure and the ephemeral memory, even the predominance in the landscape of strident aesthetics. We chose to place the discussion in "emergency contexts" because, while the term alluded to a very flexible interdisciplinary field -the well-known field of disasters- it also represented a long intellectual tradition, with several stages of resurgence and updating, where the recording of cognitive experience precedes the construction of knowledge." Translated from Page 8.
