Summary:
This book focuses on weaving together some references to the physical condition of temples and convents, trousseau clothing and ecclesiastical furniture linked to the titular saint and to the devotions promoted by the institutes of regular friars, bishops and priests. Iconography is represented in plastic works and in the items described in the numerous inventories consulted. Through these themes and others, it has been possible to recover fixed beliefs, forms of worship, ceremonies, covering objects and actors, as discussed in the body of the book. "The documentary information of the episcopal collections is as invaluable as it is contrasting to construct the history of its capitals and demarcations both in Mexico and in Latin America. The case at hand here has to do with information from the Fondo Diocesano (Diocesan Fund, FD) of the Archivo Histórico Diocesano de San Cristóbal de Las Casas (Diocesan Historical Archive of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, AHDSC), From there I obtained the marrow for this book after a year of research and the consequent reading and transcription of the selected documents. The purpose has been to interpret the human and material entrails of 12 churches erected between Tzeltals and Tzotzils in what was once the province of Los Zendales and the province or district of the Guardianship of Huitiupán in the northern Chiapas." Translated from Page [17].
