Summary:
This exhibition is the first of the Asian country's sumptuary arts to be staged in Mexico in close to four decades. Apart from porcelains, the sample of 198 pieces produced during the emblematic Ming and Qing dynasties -93 are from the Franz Mayer Museum collection and the rest from four private collections: the ALAR Collection, the collection of Mariano Rivera Velázquez, from Cristóbal Galleries and an anonymous collector- and where the protagonist of the exhibition is the porcelain known as "Blanc-de Chine", produced in the town of Dehua, which, due to the glazes that cover it, is considered "one of the few disciplines of ceramics with sculptural value". The materials used in the exhibition includes lacquers, enamels, textiles (Manila shawls), ivory and bone carvings, sculptures and furniture. The curatorial proposal also contemplates the analysis of the cultural and economic impacts of Chinese arts and their cultural exchange with the Americas from the 15th century to the 20th century.
