- The Precolumbian archaeological site of Tak' alik Ab 'aj (Standing Stone in the Quiché language). Located in the department (province) of Retalhuleu, in southwestern Guatemala, near the border with Mexico, it is one of several Mesoamerican sites with both Olmec and Maya features. "Tak'alik Ab'aj witnessed the transition from the Olmec culture to the birth of the Mayan culture, with exceptional contributions in writing, astronomy, science, mathematics, engineering, and architecture that, after more than three thousand years of history, continue to amaze scholars around the world.".
