Summary:
This case study is a review of the methods used by the author for empirical research on great power politics and good governance from 2015 through 2018. The most crucial part of this research is a nationwide survey using a stratified two-stage cluster random sampling technique that was carried out at more than 20 universities and colleges in the United States. It introduces the research from concept to practice and discusses in detail the rationale of using this method, how it was implemented step by step, and the strategies and tactics adopted to solve the problems and issues encountered along the way. While the method in this case was adopted for political studies in the United States, it would similarly provide practical and valuable pedagogic lessons for students and interested readers who intend to carry out other political and social research using surveying and sampling method in the United States and/or other countries.
