Summary:
What's the process of retrieving a sunken ship and preparing it for museum display? How do archaeologists work underwater? One of the biggest wrecks ever discovered in Spain is the Triunfante, a warship of 70 guns sunk in the Gulf of Roses along Spain's Catalan coast during the defense of Roses Citadel during the French siege of 1795. We follow the story from its discovery to its display in a museum and learn what makes this ship so special. Following the testimony of historians, archaeologists and some of the protagonists of its discovery, we will learn about the technological innovation that the engineer and mathematician, Jorge Juan y Santacilia, introduced into Spanish shipbuilding in the 18th century. Information gained from these remains will help the team of archaeologists from the Center for Underwater Archaeology of Catalonia (CASC), after three excavations campaigns, to unveil the secrets of the Triunfante.
