Summary:
An account of the last ten days of the life of Hitler.
"The Death of Adolf Hitler" is a British television play, an episode of ITV Studio's Sunday Night Theatre. In this program, Frank Finlay portrays Adolf Hitler, and Caroline Mortimer plays Eva Braun. The drama details the last 10 days of Hitler's life as World War II approaches its climax, and Allied troops close in on the Führerbunker, Hitler's last refuge. Michael Sheard (who plays Himmler) and Tony Steedman (who plays General Jodl) would go on to play the same roles in the American television film "The Bunker" in 1981. This drama depicts Hitler as a tragic antihero, tormented by both the past and the present, unable to reconcile his hopes and dreams with the reality of a living, waking nightmare of his own creation. Finlay won a British Academy Television Award as Best Actor for his performance in this film.
