Summary:
At Luxor, the Memnon Colossi mark the largest known Pharaonic temple-that of Amenhotep III, who ruled Egypt in the 14th century BC. Since 2000, Hourig Sourouzian's team has been bringing it back to life. The rest of the temple, but for the Colossi, has largely vanished. This team unearthed six colossi, each more than 10 m tall, plus more than 150 statues of Sehkmets, goddesses bearing lion's heads on human female bodies, each 2 m tall. We follow this project's phases, highlighting resplendent finds from this temple, built in peaceful, prosperous times.
