Summary:
In 2022, Pennsylvania's Fort Ligonier and Juniata College Cultural Resources Institute invited military veterans to their annual Archaeology Program. The group investigates a battlefield where George Washington was involved in a "friendly fire incident" on November 12, 1758. Modern veterans discover artifacts from the British, Colonial, French, and Native American forces involved in the skirmish, which was part of the French and Indian War (also known as the Seven Years War). Archaeology Professor Jonathan Burns, PhD., and his team train the military veterans on archaeological techniques including metal detecting, soil analysis, terrain analysis, and artifact identification. The team confirms where the "friendly fire incident" occurred and begins to understand how Washington and his fellow Virginian, Colonel George Mercer, arrayed their regiments on the battlefield. The team further illuminates a little known period in George Washington's military career.
