Summary:
In southern Italy, an archaeologist and a chemist are in the process of achieving the impossible: reconstructing a vestige so tenuous that it was thought to be lost for eternity: the perfume of the People of Antiquity. Two-and-a-half millennia ago, in the Mediterranean, perfume impregnated every stage of life and guaranteed beauty, vitality and success to those who wore it. But to which essences were people attracted at that time? What did ancient perfumes smell like? What smells were appreciated? Answering these questions has long been a dream. Today, thanks to scientific progress and the alliance of archaeology and chemistry, it is now possible to reconstruct these forgotten fragrances.
