Summary:
While Chinese Gongfu monks are world-famous today, little is known about the mysterious Music Monks. Founded in AD 555, Xiangguo Temple, one of the most prestigious Buddhist temples in China, has preserved the secret roots of Chinese music through the efforts of many generations. However, the continuous trauma of the last one hundred years has had a devastating effect on the music. Shi Yuande is conductor of the Buddhist orchestra of the Great Xiangguo Temple. Shortly before his retirement, he tries to pass on his unfulfilled wishes to a younger generation of Music Monks. Now, three talented young members of the orchestra continue the work of the Music Monks. This is an emotional journey of love and faith, but above all a journey of pain and a story about a nearly forgotten episode in Chinese music history.
